During the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2009, we have organised a survey on the creation of a network of researchers involved in enterprise modelling, enterprise architecture and/or enterprise engineering. It was our feeling that research on the aforementioned topics today is spread over many existing research disciplines but has weak momentum as a discipline in its own right.

The surveys indeed indicated a desire to create a network, but at the same time this desire was strongest in the enterprise architecture domain. Therefore, we have decided to first create an enterprise architecture network. The goals for this network include:

• More clearly define the field.
• Provide a gateway to groups working in the field.
• Create well established publication channels (preferably using existing journals and conferences).
• Establish collaborative ties with industrial partners as well as relevant standardisation bodies.
• Improve the relationship between our, mostly design science based, community and relevant theory-based communities.
• Arrange meetings of relevant events, such as the Enterprise Engineering Week 2010, comprising PoEM 2010, NAF Academy - PRET 2010 and TEAR 2010.
• Creation of a European Network of Excellence.

In the longer term we do expect an evolution towards a more broader network on related topics, as enterprise engineering and enterprise modeling in general. In doing so, we also intend to closely collaborate with the existing network on enterprise ontology-based enterprise engineering: CIAO!
